Our why

Why? This is the $100,000 dollar question, isn't it. Why am I raising 100's of chickens on pasture? I could say food security or sustainability, but those aren't the whole answer. One of the first principles of Permaculture is no waste. We don't want to let resources of any kind slip through our grasp without first using them to add benefits to the system we are building. Our croplands are nutritionally depleted from conventional farming. Our families and communities are weakened by the conventional methods of building artificial replacements for real relationships. I don't want to sustain a depleted way of life. I would rather regenerate healthy soils and healthy relationships. My wife and I believe that one of our greatest resources resides within our elders. I'll go into that in more detail later, but we believe that providing a way for our elders to live with dignity is vital to the health of our families, communities, and our world. That is why I'm raising chickens. Building our regenerative farm is laying the ground work (all puns are intended) for our regenerative retirement community.
